Here at the University of Surrey Canoe Club we provide the opportunity to focus on a range of different aspects of canoeing:

White Water Kayaking trips

We start the year with easier rivers to introduce and build the skills of newcomers to the sport.

Once you have mastered the essentials of white water kayaking you will notice your ability increasing, and you can start going on bigger rivers.

It is even possible to have never been in a boat before to being snapped on this waterfall in Scotland by the end of your first year! However we never push you to do something you wern't comfortable on. We understand that everyone progresses at different rates :-)

Weekly River Sessions

Wednesdays: 1pm outside Rubix

At 1pm we meet outside the front of Rubix and leave for the boat shed which is a 20 minute walk away, at the Watersideside centre.

There are areas on the river where you can practice your white water skills on moving water as well as a relaxing paddle through the countryside or town.

Dinner will be served as we get off the river and drinks can be bought at our very own bar, the cheapest in Guildford (£2.50 pint)!

Weekly Pool Sessions

We have full access to the pool at Surrey Sports Park:

- Tuesdays: 21:15-22:30 (skills practise)

- Sundays: 19:30-21:30 (polo & skills practise)

This is a great session for beginners to gain more confidence in a boat or just practise the necessary skills/techniques for kayaking.

Canoe Polo

We currrently have an A team of 5 (plus 3 subs) to represent the University of Surrey in nationwide canoe polo events but we're always looking for new players, whether experienced or not. This is a challenging sport so we will give you the chance to try it out during our pool sessions.

Last year we purchased a fleet of brand new carbon/kevlar boats and paddles which we put to good use in the Regional League Div. 3 SE and at the BUCS university tournaments.

Come and get a taste of Canoe Polo on Sundays at the Surrey Sports Park pool 19:30-21:30.

What do I need?

Pool Sessions - Swimming wear, tshirt, towel

River Sessions - Clothes that you don't mind getting wet (with shoes), towel, dry clothes, money for food (usually £3) and money for our very own bar.

Trips - We'll worry about that when we see you at our sessions
